When Someone’s Success Makes You Feel Like A Failure - 058

Do you ever feel insecure when you someone gets a higher grade than you? Or gets a promotion faster than you? Or loses more weight than you? Are you no longer proud of your achievements because they simply don't seem as good as theirs? Tune into this episode to learn how to stop letting other people's success feel like your failures.

True confidence is when you can celebrate EVERYONE'S success without making it mean anything negative about your own, and in this episode I share the mindset shifts we need to make in order to create that confidence for ourselves.

I discuss how rather than just immediately reacting to your thoughts, I want you to recognise them for what they are - outdated programming in your brain that is well practiced but totally optional! And rather than judging and criticizing yourself for them, meet yourself with compassion and then use your conscious brain to manage your subconscious one by redirecting to some more useful and empowering thoughts to focus on instead, that begins to lessen the amount of self loathing shame or jealousy those initial thoughts might be causing.

Some of my favourite thoughts to redirect my brain to when I feel jealous or insecure about other people’s success are:

  • Success is not food - it’s not in limited supply! There’s infinite amount of success available to me.

  • Their ability to do well doesn't take away from my ability to do so

  • I use other people’s success as an example of what is possible!

  • I wonder how they did it? What can I learn from them? What are they thinking and believing that has them creating that result?

  • This is harder for me than them, and that’s okay.

  • Everything is happening right on time.

  • I’m not entitled to success I haven’t yet earned, but day by day through overcoming these obstacles, I am growing to someone who is.

  • I don’t define myself by a number. Ever.

  • Their success doesn’t make her more worthy or me less worthy - our worth just is and there’s nothing we can do about it.

  • I celebrate other people's success without making it mean anything negative about mine. We're each good at different things but the most rewarding feeling is when I have to work hard to achieve something

  • The fact I have to work so hard to do well is helping me develop skills far more priceless than the result

Don’t forget:
